Happy Snow Day from Denver!
I’m currently snowed in with 9 inches of snow and counting…
Since I can’t get out of my driveway for a latte, I decided to try my hand at homemade hot chocolate. I’ve been eyeing Ina Garten’s recipe for sometime, but due to the ingredients (you’ll see what I mean), I knew it would have to be a special occasion. And a snow day seemed like just the occasion.
So, first of all, a bit of warning…there is NOTHING low cal about this recipe, but oh. em. gee. is it worth it.
Stay warm loves!!

Hot Chocolate
Recipe by Ina Garten
2 and 1/2 cups whole milk (I used 2% and it was still delicious)
2 cups half and half
4 ounces bittersweet chocolate
4 ounces milk chocolate
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon instant coffee powder (I did not have this, but I am sure it would be a wonderful addition.)
4 to 5 vanilla beans for garnish (I garnished with whip cream and marshmallows)
Method: Heat milk and half and half to just below simmering. Remove pan from heat and add both chocolates. When chocolates are melted, add sugar, vanilla and espresso. Whisk vigorously. Reheat gently and serve immediately.
